Kinds of software
Once we have computer hardware, then the next we have to put (install) software to the computer. A computer without softwares will not be able to function properly. Softwares can be broadly divided into 3 parts. The following discussion of the types of softwares:

A. OS (Operating System)
OS is the softwares must first be installed to the computer. While the function of the OS, which manages the hardware and softwares on a computer.
The OS will also serve as an intermediary between the application hardware. So
when we give command from an application to the hardware, the order will be
delivered to the OS first, then by the OS to the hardware delivered. For
example, we give the print command from the Microsoft Word application. The
order will be delivered to the OS first, and then by the OS was delivered to
the printer.Examples of OS among others; DOS, Windows, Macintosh, Linux etc.. Each OS has their advantages and disadvantages, but this time the Windows OS is still the most widely used by the public because of the ease in operating and maintenance.
B. Applications or Programs
This softwares are made for a particular purpose. Another purpose of the creation of this software are to facilitate human work. Now there are many applications that help humans work.
Applications can be divided into several types based on their function, ie:
1. Word processors
This application is used to create documents such as letters, envelopes, labels, paper and so on. Examples of these applications include; Microsoft Word, Open Office Org. Writer and so on.
2. Number crunchers
This application is used to process numbers in the form of tables and graphs. Examples of these applications include; Microsoft Excel, Open Office Org. Calc, Lotus etc..
3. Processing presentation
This application is used to create presentations. Examples of these applications include; Microsoft Power Point, Open Office Org. Impress, Macromedia Flash MX, etc..
4. Image processing
This application is used to process the images and photos. Examples of these applications include; Corel Draw, Adobe potoshop etc..
In no term application Package Program. The term is used to refer to an application that consists of several applications. For example; Microsoft Office is comprised of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Access, etc..
Please also note that an application is usually only for a particular OS or OS supports only certain. For example; Microsoft Office that can only be installed on Windows OS. But there are also applications that can be installed on multiple OS such as Mozilla Firefox applications that can be installed on Windows or Linux.
C. Programming Language
This software is used to create applications. User applications are usually called the Programmers. The types of programming languages, among others; Assembly Language, Language Fortran and Fourth Generation Languages. Programming languages in use today is a high-level language or a fourth generation language. This kind of language is more easily understood, because it uses human language as the language of Britain. Examples of this software, al; Visual Basic, Visual FoxPro, Java, etc..
